Washing Machine Power Consumption (With Calculations)

From our early childhood, all of us are familiar with the washing machine and its application. But How much power does your washing machines consumers? In this article, you’ll learn the power consumption of your washing machine and its daily, monthly, and yearly effect on your electricity bill.

On average a washing machine consumes between 500 – 2000 watts. However, based on different models and parameters the power consumption of a washing machine can vary.

A 16 kg machine having A+++ efficiency consumes around 800 watts. Such machine when runs for 1 hour can cost you around $0.16.

Calculation for above data:

800 watts/1000 = 0.8 kW

Running for 1 hour = 0.8 kWh

Assume cost of $0.2 per unit: 0.8 * 0.2 = $0.16

If the same washing machine daily runs for 1 hour throughout the month, then:

Monthly bill = 0.8 * 0.2 * 30 = $4.8

Yearly bill = 0.8 * 2 * 365 = $58.4

Good to know: The energy efficiency index is a measure of annual energy consumption of washing machines and some other factors. Based on EEI the washing machines can be classified as A+++, A++, A+, A, B, C, D while A+++ is most efficient and D is least.
