Electrical and Electronics Engineering Glossary 53: Transistor Definition

The transistor is a semiconductive device that is used for amplification and
switching applications. The transistor is found in all the electronics.

The most basic transistor is a BJT (Bipolar junction transistor) that is constructed from three doped semiconductor regions which are separated by two PN junctions. The three regions are known as emitter, base, and collector.
